Culinary & Flavor Profile Marbled Purple Stripe, Hardneck Keeps 8–9 months Medium-large to large sized bulbs Heat Scale: 9/10
strong heat up front
deep, earthy flavor
Deadwood garlic presents a strong heat right away that turns into a deep, earthy flavor. When raw, the horseradish notes of this variety add a zing to dips for root vegetables, and when cooked, Deadwood pairs well with creamy sauces for red meat or mushroom dishes. This is an excellent variety to use in sausage making too!
Deadwood bulbs are medium-large to large in size and the wrappers have a lot of deep purple stripes. Each bulb typically has 2–6 large cloves, the thick, brownish-red clove skins are very easy to peel, and the yellow-white cloves are easy to slice and crush. Deadwood garlic keeps for 8–9 months when stored at room temperature in a dry, dark place that has plenty of air circulation.
Quantity Guidelines 8–10 bulbs per pound Approximately 30–45 cloves per pound
We grow all of our garlic from naturally grown or organic seed, and we never use chemicals at any time during our planting, growing, harvesting or curing processes. The Quantity Guidelines listed above are ESTIMATES to help you decide how much of this garlic variety to order by weight so you can plan for your planting and spacing, or cooking needs.
Note: Garlic is an agricultural crop that is subject to loss due to conditions beyond our control. This can even occur in the curing stage. We check each bulb before shipping them to you, and if there are any quality issues with our stock, we may need to substitute the variety you want with another, similar variety. We rarely need to do this, but if it does become necessary, we will contact you prior to shipping to discuss your options. Our goal is to get truly great, high quality garlic into your hands while providing personalized customer service that you can trust!
